CARMEL TO SAN FRANCISCO AND CHINA CAMP



On 22nd of September we left Carmel at 8.15. The weather was fine with low cloud. Fertile country grew small crops.  We had brunch at an old pub, Dipsy Restaurant  with Anne and Mel's long time friends, Pamela and Marty . The mountain, Muir Woods nearby is 500 feet high.  Red wood timber grows there.   That night we camped at China Camp, east of San Francisco,  at the San Simeon State Park grounds.  Very clean, but cold.  We shared a small tent after cooking a delicious meal on an open fire.  As there was a short walk to the amenities, we all went to the bathroom at the same time in the middle of the night, hoping a big cats in the area were not in our area.!!!








































We had the campground to ourselves.  Not a cat in sight!!

A MEMORABLE HOLIDAY ACROSS AMERICA WITH ANNE AND MEL.  I was chuffed when my American relatives Anne and Mel suggested a road trip across America, taking in part of Route 66.  The year was 2013, September 6 th . Being great trip planners they mapped our places to visit and stay, including a couple of camping parks, and four Couch Surfing Hosts, the first being with host  Jeff who was caretaking a friend’s house in the hills of the Smoky Mountains. Couch surfing hosts provide free bedding only. Some provide food. We excitedly departed my sister-in-law Barbara’s house at Luray near the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  The time 7.30.  The small ageing car sporting a roof rack with camping gear, was packed to the brim.  Will ‘she’ make the distance Barbara and I thought.  She did.
